Meet The Session Presenters
Barbara Hernandez
Barbara Lorraine Michiels Hernandez is currently a Professor in the Department of Health & Kinesiology at Lamar University, Beaumont, TX. She received her Ph.D. in Health and Technology Education from Texas Woman's University Denton and M. Ed. and B. A in Health & Physical Education, Dance Specialization, Elementary/Early Childhood Education, and Educational Supervision from Northwestern State University of Louisiana. Barbara was inducted as a National Research Fellow of the Research Consortium and Faculty Senate President. She has been a public-school teacher, professional dancer, artistic director at 2 universities, and Executive Director for the National Dance Association. Dr. Hernandez has authored, edited, and published textbooks, book chapters, and peer reviewed journal articles. She has received national and regional grants and is a reviewer for professional journals. Her research interests are women’s dancer’s health, dance education, and Hansen’s Disease. Professional conference presentations were at the international, national, and state levels. Barbara served on the Board of Directors for SOPHE, Dancing in the Millennium, Dancing with the Mouse, NDA, TAHPERD, MAHPERD, Central District, SDAAHPERD, and T-SOPHE. Dr. Hernandez is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist, a Lifetime Certified K-12 Teacher, and Certified Dance Educator. |
