The NDSJ Editor-in-Chief’s requirements and responsibilities include - but are not limited to - the following:
- Have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in a dance-related area with additional expertise in one of the following: editing, writing, research, or publishing.
- Have a working knowledge of the guidelines found in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed., 2010).
- Serve as the leader of the NDS Editorial Review Board, chairing all committee meetings, and submitting written reports and updates when requested.
- Prepare and update the following materials: Author Guidelines for submitting manuscripts, Manuscript Review Flow Process, and External Reviewer Guidelines.
- Initially review submissions, external reviews, and author revisions, and provide appropriate feedback, as necessary, to maintain high academic standards.
- In the case that the manuscript content or focus is inappropriate for NDSJ, the Editor-in-Chief confers with the Associate Editor to make joint decisions regarding any rejections, or contacts the author(s) directly with guidelines for the author to revise and re-submit..
- Correspond with authors, reviewers, and publication staff to maintain schedule.
- Ensure the double-blinded review process.
- Submit manuscripts to at least 2 reviewers expert in the specific area who can be objective and do not have conflicts of interest.
- Maintain confidentiality and objectivity regarding manuscripts and the review process.
- Set and manage the timeline from submission to print release.
- Prepare the table of contents, compile the author-approved manuscripts, secure any missing content, and overview for copyediting consistency, prior to sending to the publisher.
- Proof the page layouts, sharing with the NDS president, associate editor, and publications editor.
- Have final approval on the print layout.
